V E R V E M A R K E T I N G & D E S I G N ™ recently produced two new books for Heifer International, Dreaming Cows: The Paintings, Murals and Drawings of Betty LaDuke, written by
Susan Jo Bumagin, and Once There Was and Was Not: A Modern Day Folktale from Armenia, written by New York Times Best-Selling author Page McBrier and illustrated by award winning illustrator Stefano Vitale.

Dreaming Cows is about a journey of transformed lives, and recounts how the life of Betty LaDuke was affected when she took her first Heifer International Study Tour to Uganda and Rwanda in 2003. On that and her many subsequent trips, this widely celebrated and prolific artist has captured the hardships, beauty and dignity of the people Heifer helps. Through the brilliantly colored images by Betty LaDuke and the compelling and empathetic narrative by Susan Bumagin, Dreaming Cows takes the art lover and the reader on a colorful, uplifting and inspiring journey from the Bronx to Bolivia, and from Vietnam to Kosovo.

Once There Was and Was Not is a modern day folk tale of three best friends who join a Heifer International sponsored youth group. They raise a prize-winning cow, learn valuable life lessons, and along the way they teach the rest of us how small acts can change the world for the better. The unusual title recalls the traditional opening line of Armenian folk tales—the equivalent of “Once upon a time . . .”
