Bodacious Brigadeiros!

The Undiscovered Chocolate Gift for the Holiday Season

The Luxury Marketing Council of San Francisco is thrilled to introduce tinyB, a San Francisco artisan chocolate maker with a twist: they make a Brazilian chocolate truffle called a "brigadeiro". It's unquestionably the undiscovered gem of the chocolate world—because it's simply incredible.

A cousin of the truffle, brigadeiros have a smooth creamy texture but without a hard shell. Renata’s special recipe heightens the chocolate intensity, without the bitterness of dark chocolate or the sweetness of extra sugar. Hand-dipped coatings offer a variety of sensational taste treats including Coconut and Cream, Dark Chocolate, Dark Chocolate and Almond, Dark Chocolate and Pistachio, Milk Chocolate and Sprinkles, Dark Chocolate Mint, Brazilian Coffee and Chocolate, Passion Fruit and White Chocolate Curls, Raspberry and White Chocolate and Spicy Dark Chocolate.

Besides being gluten-free and made fresh-to-order, tinyB makes it easy to add the “wow” factor to business holiday gifting. Their Business Gift Concierge takes your gifting list and creates delightful packages including fresh chocolate brigadeiros, a handwritten note and shipping. As an extra touch, tinyB can custom-brand the outer package with your company name and logo.

Winning and Losing - A Conversation with Ann Killion, Sports Columnist

November 10, 6:00-8:00 PM

These have been the best of times for Bay Area sports. But even in sports, Newtonian law prevails. “For every action, there is an equal but opposite reaction”. Enter Ann Killion. At a time when sports punditry tends to an unimaginative recitation of Sabermetrics stats and rote enunciation of x’s and o’s, pick and rolls and other arcane sports jabberwocky, Ms. Killion writes with a style, acerbic at times, most often good natured, and always with insight and incisiveness that elevates sports commentary from the mundane to the revelatory.

In this compelling conversation, Ms. Killion will reflect on the current state of Bay Area sports, provide insight into the most recent performance of teams and their stars, and address the psychology that surrounds winning and losing—how both teams and followers should make sense of a world, agnostic to status and class, where the highs and lows are unpredictable, unplanned and unexpected, and for the diehards, unendurable.

Audience Q & A will be encouraged.

Francis Ford Coppola

Edie Rodriguez
Robb Report Showcases Coppola (Inglenook) and Rodriquez (Crystal Cruises)

"No matter the market or medium, Francis Ford Coppola wants to tell you a story. “Whether it’s wine, hotels, movies, art—anything that involves offering people an authentic experience of pleasure—it’s like putting on a show,” says the 77-year-old filmmaker, winemaker, and hotelier. “It’s all show business.” The Academy Award–winning director of the Godfather series and Apocalypse Now should know. His wine brands include Inglenook, Coppola (which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year), and Virginia Dare, and he owns five resorts in locations from Guatemala to Basilicata, Italy. How he got to this point—after risking everything, with family in tow—may be the most interesting story of all."

"Edie Rodriguez’s wanderlust blossomed at an early age. “When I was 6, my great-aunt brought me a small geisha doll from Japan,” recalls Rodriguez, now the CEO and president of Crystal Cruises. “I loved that doll and learned all that I could about Japan. It made me realize I wanted to travel—not only to Japan, but to every country in the world.” Travel she does, spending roughly 285 days on the road—and at sea—in her role at Crystal, where she has successfully turned the luxury cruising industry on its head."

San Francisco Real Estate 3rd Quarter Market Report

For the past several years San Francisco has seen some jaw dropping increases in home values year-over-year. During the 3rd quarter of 2016, sale prices were generally up each month, but not dramatically so in comparison to what had been seen previously. Single family homes under $2 million dollars continued to sell well. Condos, after reaching a record breaking high for median price in June, came down in value a bit over the past three months. Nevertheless, the median price for condos remained just above the $1,000,000 mark.

Some would say the market is flat, but that description might not apply in all categories, and in all neighborhoods. Overall, the market seems to be in better balance than it has been in recent years. As in previous years, there will likely be a decline in inventory after October through the end of the year.

The report features a number of charts, including third quarter home sales by neighborhood. This chart has information on the number of sales in each neighborhood, along with median sale prices, percent of change year-over-year, days on market, median price per square foot and the most expensive sale in the quarter.

Sililcon Valley Cities Dominate Top 10 Most Expensive Housing Markets in the United States

Tech is hot, and Silicon Valley is hotter. For the third time in five years, the technology capital of the world ranked as the most expensive place to live in the United States in the Coldwell Banker Real Estate Home Listing Report (HLR).

According to the report, which is the most extensive home price comparison tool in the U.S., the average four-bedroom, two-bathroom home costs $2,453,718 in this year’s most expensive market, Saratoga, California. Six of the top 10 most expensive markets are in Silicon Valley, and all 10 are in California.

In contrast, the 2016 HLR found that you don’t have to move to the middle of nowhere to find an affordable home. Many of the most affordable markets are located in -or within an hour’s drive to- metropolitan areas that offer access to jobs, culture, entertainment or top universities. This year, Detroit, an iconic city which has seen a major revitalization, ranked as the most affordable market in the country where an average four-bedroom, two-bathroom home costs $64,110.

Top 10 Most Affordable Markets:

  1. Detroit*, Mich., $64,110
  2. Cleveland*, Ohio, $73,073
  3. Park Forest*, Ill., $78,392
  4. Jamestown*, N.Y., $88,891
  5. Utica*, N.Y., $92,891
  6. Wilkes-Barre*, Pa., $94,436
  7. Scranton*, Pa., $104,842
  8. Huntington*, Ind., $105,614
